SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Samsons Academy Charity has been delivering combative sports for 6 years, coaching with young people around Bedfordshire who have been experiencing issues and problems around accessing educations, employment and training.

We work with young people, giving them essential support into Higher Education, work engagement placements and interships.

Providing alternative solutions to the problems facing our communities, using a collaborative and communal approach.

Working closely with Educational Providers in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, to make positive steps towards the rehabilitation of young adults needing support.

How We Support Local Communities

We work clollectively with many local communities with our engagement work. We have specialist Community Engagement Advocates who work with some of the harder to reach communities and those who are considered hardly reached. When the work carried out is done collectively with consultation, successes are far greater than the failures as we have encountered with some organisations.

BAND OF BROTHERS: MEN HEAL

Exciting news! We’ve been meeting with the producers of “We Are England”, which has been aired on BBC1 for the past couple of years, as the BBC had seen the work that Samsons Academy was undertaking around suicide intervention and prevention across Bedfordshire. We will be featuring in an episode on the work we and our partners do. In particular, they were interested in the project we launched in March 2022 called Band of Brothers Mental Health, Men Heal for short.

STAND UP TO SUICIDE: COMEDY NIGHT

Samsons Academy have started to train up 100 men in and around Bedfordshire using a practice called ASSIST. We are super grateful to Franco Monoturno/Moliterno brother of Fabio from Escobarbers in Bedford who is working with us and the BBC to raise the awareness of our community work. We are also working with 830 individuals from all Bedfords rugby clubs, businesses and relatable businesses how we can work symbiotically to look at this growing problem of early deaths related to suicide.

We Are More Than Just a Gym... We Are A Community Network

The Midland Road area is still one of the most deprived catchment areas in Bedfordshire and has a high concentration of people classified as living in poverty. Unemployment, gang crime and poverty are rife where we have seen two associated murders over the past 8 years, many young people do not have a positive outlet for their frustrations. Samsons Academy also supports the surrounding areas of Bedford, where we take referrals from Hertfordshire College, Oak Bank Pupil Referral Unit and Organisations in Milton Keynes.
